Ion Astral is a precision astrology app: real astronomy, measured to the arc-minute — not generic sun-sign horoscopes. To do that well, we handle a small amount of information that is genuinely personal to you, most importantly your birth details. This policy explains, in plain English, exactly what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We have written it to reflect what the app actually does — nothing more.

1. Who we are

Ion Astral is operated by Constelia LLC ("Ion Astral," "we," "us," "our"), a limited liability company registered in Florida, United States, based in Miami, FL. For the purposes of UK/EU data protection law, Constelia LLC is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

2. Data we collect

We collect only what we need to run the app and compute your charts. Specifically:

a) Account information

  • Your email address, created through our authentication provider (Supabase Auth), or a sign-in token if you use Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In.
  • A display name, if you choose to provide one (also used to personalize your experience and your numerology reading).
  • A user identifier associated with your account.

b) Birth data (treated as sensitive)

  • Your date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth.
  • We use this solely to calculate your astrological charts and readings (Western natal / Placidus, transits, solar return, Vedic, Human Design, numerology, compatibility). We do not use your birth data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
  • Because birth data is personal and identifying, we treat it as sensitive information and protect it accordingly, even where local law does not strictly require us to.
  • Your place of birth is text you enter (a city name) used only for the astronomical calculation. We do not collect your device's GPS location.

c) Content you create

  • Journal entries (including your inner-sky / moon-calendar notes), your streak ("the chain"), your "did this land?" transit feedback, and the messages you send to Astra, our conversational AI astrologer.
  • Details you add for compatibility / synastry, such as a friend's or partner's birth details that you choose to enter. If you enter someone else's birth details, please only do so with their awareness.

d) Subscription status

  • Whether you have a free or Astra Premium subscription, and its status (active, expired, trial). Subscriptions are managed through RevenueCat and billed by Apple (App Store). We do not collect or store your payment card, bank, or billing details — Apple handles payment.

e) Basic device and usage data

  • Standard technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, and how you interact with features (for example, which sections you open). This helps us keep the app stable and improve it.

f) Product / outcome signals

  • We capture signals about how features perform (for example, whether a reading was rated helpful) to improve the product. These signals are tied to your account identifier but contain no personal content — no birth data, no message text, no journal text.

g) Purchases of physical prints (website)

  • If you buy a printed chart from our website, we (and our commerce and print partners) process the order and shipping information you provide (name, shipping address, email, order details) to produce and deliver your print. Payment is handled by our payment processor; we do not store your card details.

What we do NOT collect: we do not collect your precise device GPS location, your device contacts / address book, your photos, camera or microphone data, health/fitness data, browsing history from other apps, or biometric identifiers.

h) Advertising measurement

  • On our website, we use the Meta Pixel and Conversions API (Facebook & Instagram) to measure how our ads perform. This shares limited events — such as page views, add-to-cart, and purchases — with Meta as our service provider, so we can see which ads lead to sales and reach similar audiences. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not track you across unrelated apps beyond this advertising measurement. Where required, we ask for your consent to non-essential cookies/tracking, and you can opt out via our cookie banner and your device/browser ad settings.

3. How we use your data

We use the information above to:

  • Compute your charts and readings across all supported systems, from your birth data.
  • Power Astra, our AI astrologer, so it can reference your actual placements rather than generic text (see Section 5).
  • Provide app features — daily energy score and ritual, transit tracking, journal and streak, compatibility/synastry, and your birth chart as art.
  • Fulfill orders for physical prints purchased on our website.
  • Manage your account and subscription, including unlocking Astra Premium features.
  • Maintain, secure, and improve the app, diagnose problems, and understand which features are useful.
  • Communicate with you about your account, support requests, and important service or policy changes.
  • Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-app advertising or ad tracking.

4. Legal bases for processing (UK/EU – GDPR)

If you are in the UK or EU, we rely on the following legal bases under the UK GDPR / EU GDPR:

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time (see Section 7). Withdrawing consent for us to process your birth data means we can no longer generate your charts, since that data is essential to the service.

5. Astra AI — how it works and what it means for your data

Astra is a grounded, conversational AI astrologer powered by Anthropic's Claude models. To generate a response, we send the relevant parts of your computed chart and the messages you send to Astra to Anthropic's API so the model can produce an answer that cites your real placements.

  • Anthropic processes this data as our service provider (sub-processor) to return Astra's responses to you.
  • Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, Anthropic does not use this data to train its models, and it is handled under Anthropic's limited API data-retention practices (generally up to approximately 30 days for operational and safety purposes, then deleted, unless a longer period is legally required).
  • Your Astra conversations are stored on your device so you can revisit them; we do not keep a copy of the message text on our servers.
  • We instruct Astra to be safety-aware. Astra is not a substitute for professional medical, financial, legal, or mental-health advice, and it does not provide such advice. Where a conversation suggests you may be in crisis, Astra is designed to surface appropriate crisis hotline resources. If you are in danger or crisis, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line directly.

Ion Astral is intended for reflection and self-insight — not medical, legal, or financial advice. You control what you tell Astra. Please avoid sharing information you would not want processed to generate a reading.

6. Sharing and sub-processors

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share data only with the service providers ("sub-processors") that make the app and store work, each bound by contract to protect it and use it only on our instructions:

Analytics (future): we may add privacy-conscious product analytics or error-monitoring tools (for example, PostHog and/or Sentry) to understand usage and fix crashes. If we do, we will update this policy and this list before or when we begin using them.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), in which case we will notify you as required.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights. We honor these rights for all our users regardless of region.

Everyone can:

  • Access / export the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data (including your birth details).
  • Delete your account and associated data — directly in the app under Profile → Delete account, or by contacting us.
  • Withdraw consent for processing that relies on it.

UK/EU (GDPR) users also have the right to:

  • Restrict or object to certain processing.
  • Data portability (receive your data in a portable format).
  • Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk; in the EU, your national Data Protection Authority). We'd appreciate the chance to resolve it first.

California (CCPA/CPRA) residents also have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how it is used and shared.
  • Delete and correct personal information.
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information (we already limit birth data to providing the service).
  • Opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — note: we do not sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your rights.

How to exercise a right: email support@ionastral.com. We will verify your request (usually via your account email) and respond within the timeframe required by law (generally within 30 days under GDPR, 45 days under CCPA/CPRA, extendable where permitted). You may use an authorized agent where the law allows.

8. Data retention

  • We keep your personal data while your account is active, so the app can provide your charts, history, journal, and streak across sessions.
  • When you delete your account (or ask us to delete your data), we delete or anonymize your personal information from our active systems, and instruct our sub-processors to do the same, within a reasonable period — except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, tax, security, or fraud-prevention obligations.
  • If you have purchased a physical print, we retain the minimum order records required for tax and accounting obligations; where possible these are anonymized (disassociated from your account) rather than deleted.
  • Product/outcome signals, which contain no personal content, may be retained to improve the product.
  • Data sent to Astra/Anthropic is subject to Anthropic's limited retention window described in Section 5.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption at rest with our database provider, access controls, and authentication through trusted providers (Supabase, Apple, Google). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and to promptly address any incident, notifying you and regulators where the law requires.

10. Children's privacy

Ion Astral is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old to use the app. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13 (United States) or under 16 (EU, where a higher age applies). If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact support@ionastral.com and we will delete it.

11. International data transfers

We are based in the United States, and our sub-processors may process data in the United States and other countries. If you are in the UK, EU, or Canada, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum / IDTA) approved by the relevant authorities, together with additional protections. You can request more information about these safeguards at support@ionastral.com.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves — for example, if we add analytics tools or new features. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of Ion Astral after an update means you accept the revised policy.
